CFMOTO Cup - Serres Circuit

The third round of the Romanian National Road Racing Championship and the Eastern European Championship is on this weekend in Greece. It's the second time this season that riders from Romania, Bulgaria, Greece, Turkey, and Serbia are flocking to Serres Racing Circuit for an important race. Each round is made up of two separate races, one scheduled for Saturday and one for Sunday. With that in mind, on the 18th and 19th of June, over 100 riders will take part in the fifth and sixth official races of the season.

ACSRU Racing is signed up for this event with a large squad of young and talented riders, that will be competing in the following categories: CFMOTO Cup, Supersport300, Formula 600, Stock 600, and Stock 1000. Following today's official training sessions, the results are:

CFMOTO Cup:

Fabian Cojocariu pleasantly surprised everyone by coming in later than usual. He was involved in a traffic accident on Wednesday, when he was hit from behind while riding his motorcycle, by a driver that had been drinking. So, the 17-year-old rider announced that he would not be joining the race in Serres. Still, after a thorough investigation at the hospital, he changed his mind. With minor burns on his forearm and feeling a bit down, he also didn't manage to get any training today.

"The first time I was in Serres, earlier this year, was more of a fun experiment for me. I did not feel like pushing myself too hard, after the crash I had suffered in Navak, last autumn. But I've improved by quite a bit since April. It might rain here tomorrow, and I'd be happy if it happens. I've been dreaming about a wet race for a while now. I'm not afraid of sliding around, I've practiced it with the 300SR at Targu Secuiesc before"

Cristian Radu continued to display a strong performance in Serres, being one of the fastest riders in the CFMOTO Cup. After the two practice sessions, he also received valuable practice from both his teammates from the upper classes and Team Manager Florin Calin.

"Today I realized how far I've come in the past two months. I also figured out some of the areas on the track where I need to improve. I'm happy to say that today is the day I've learned how to rev-match when downshifting. I was shocked to hear that one of my more experienced teammates didn't touch his brake lever while out on the CFMOTO 300SR today. I must reach that level myself"

This weekend's surprise rider is none other than Andrei Poponut, one of the most experienced riders in Romania at the moment. There aren't a lot of bikes that he hasn't raced on, but today was his first contact with the 300SR.

"I only managed to get one session today. I didn't expect it to be so fun. Coming from the 600 class, I immediately realized how light this bike is compared to my R6. I didn't use the brake lever in any corner, I just slowed down by downshifting. The faster Supersport 300 riders would overtake me on the straights, but I would be right on their tail in every single corner. It was a very relaxing experience overall"

Darius Boagiu is back in action after his round 1 crash in Serres. After almost two mounts of being confined to his bed, today was rather difficult for the TBIPay rider.

"It felt like this was the first time I was out on the track. Going into turn 2, I immediately started slowing down way more than I should have. Both Cristian and Ionut have improved considerably since the last time I saw them with my own eyes. I am keen on becoming faster and catching up to them. The fact that I can fully trust my bike is a good thing, I can lean in as much as I want with it without being afraid. I am also aware of my mistakes, and I know what must be done if I am to overcome them".

Looking at the fastest lap times set by the CFMOTO Cup riders today, the results are as follows:

The other riders that will race tomorrow in the CFMOTO Cup, but didn't manage to set a lap time today are Daria Ganescu, Ana Andrita, Vlad Chivu, Fabian Cojocariu, and Alex Voinea.
